Sherman, Texas -- Austin College is proud to announce that Kat Stein ’28 has been awarded the At-Large Sumners Scholarship by The Sumners Foundation.
“Receiving this scholarship will have a meaningful impact on my education by helping to reduce my financial burden as I pursue my degree,” said Stein. “I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and will use the support to make the most of my college experience while preparing to contribute positively to my field and community."
Stein is a sophomore at Austin College. She is a student-athlete on the volleyball team, a peer writing assistant for the Scarbrough Center for Writing, and a member of the SCAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Stein is majoring in Philosophy, Politics, & Economics (PPE) with a concentration in Political Science and planning to add a social justice minor. Already looking toward life after Austin College, she has plans to attend law school and become a lawyer.

At-large scholarships support qualified students who demonstrate a passion for self-government. Students from Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas are eligible to apply as long they are attending a college or university in Texas or Oklahoma.
Sumners Scholars enjoy special access to other programs sponsored by the Foundation. These currently include private access to speakers as part of a lecture series; participation in a variety of public policy, leadership, and civic participation programs; and access to several educational and internship opportunities.
