Dodd City, Texas -- The Dodd City Hornets held the lead through five innings until a late rally gave the Whitewright Tigers a three-run victory on Friday.
After a scoreless first inning, Dodd City's Collin Baum blasted a two-run single to right field in the bottom of the second. Whitewright brought home a runners in the top of the fourth frame, but Dodd City was still on top, 2-1, going into the sixth inning.
Whitewright scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to slip in front, 3-2, and then the Tigers tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh to earn a 5-2 win on the road.
Four Whitewright pitchers limited Dodd City to only two hits; Collin Baum went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Kaleb Covington was 1-for-2 and scored once. Aaron Solano scored the Hornets' other run.
Eastyn Weissert got the start for Dodd City and scattered five hits in six innings on the mound. Weissert struck out four Tigers. Solano pitched the seventh inning and allowed one hit.
Whitewright's Kason Dodson went 2-for-3 and scored one run.
The Hornets travel to Tioga on Tuesday, April 21 and then close out district competition on Friday, April 24 when Dodd City hosts Savoy on Senior Night.
