Bonham, Texas -- Shirley Ann Whitehead, 85, of Bonham, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on April 17, 2026, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison. She was born on June 8, 1940, in Bonham, Texas, to Raymond Smith and Lois Luna Smith.
Shirley graduated as valedictorian of Bells High School, a reflection of her dedication and strong work ethic. On October 22, 1990, she married her beloved husband, Major (Ret.) Benjamin Whitehead Jr., in Garland, Texas. Together, they shared a love for travel and adventure, creating cherished memories over the years.
An exceptionally talented seamstress, Shirley took great pride in making matching outfits for her four daughters during their childhood. Her deep love for family extended to all of her children, each of whom brought her immense joy and purpose.
Shirley was also deeply involved in her community. She was a proud member of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). For ten years, she owned and operated an antique shop in Georgia.
Since 2004, Shirley had been a devoted member of Boyd Baptist Church, where she found a strong sense of belonging and formed many meaningful friendships.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Major (Ret.) Benjamin Whitehead Jr.; daughters, Lana Foster and Lisa Langford; and son, Kenneth Drake.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Lari Weaver of Prosper, Texas, and Linda Nelson and husband Truitt of El Paso, Texas; stepdaughter, Dr. Deborah Ann Gleaves and husband Ron of Terrell, Texas; grandchildren, David (wife Megan), Kyle, Heath, Michael, Meagan (husband Mike), Adam, John, Leah, Leslie, Sarah, and Matthew; eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Gary Smith; niece, Ginger Bassham and Leslie; nephew, Brad Smith and wife Lisa; as well as many dear church friends whom she considered family.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Boyd Baptist Church on April 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Little Jordan Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Weaver, Kyle Weaver, Heath Weaver, Brad Smith, Chris Bassham, Brad Blackburn.
Shirley will be remembered for her unwavering love, quick wit, and the warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
