Dodd City Hornets sweep Perrin-Whitt to advance

Gainesville, Texas -- The Dodd City Hornets pulled out a thrilling win in the bottom of the seventh inning in the series opener with the Perrin-Whitt Pirates, and then finished the job with a solid victory in game two.

In game one, Dodd City had a 12-4 lead after five innings only to watch Perrin-Whitt score three runs in the top of the sixth and six runs in the top of the seventh to slip in front, 13-12.

Dodd City answered the challenge with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for a wild 14-13 win.

Dodd City's Eastyn Weissert went 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Kaleb Covington was 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

Gavin Shindler had one hit and three RBIs.

Weissert got the start and went six innings to get the win.

In game two, it was Perrin-Whitt with a 4-1 advantage after three innings, but the Dodd City bats came alive and scored nine unanswered runs to post a 10-4 victory and sweep the area round series.

Tyler Denney took the mound in game two and held Perrin-Whitt to five hits in four innings before giving way to relievers Aaron Solano and Gavin Shindler.

Solano held the Pirates hitless in the fifth and sixth innings and Shindler kept Perrin-Whitt from scoring in the seventh inning.

Denney was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3, scoring three times, walking twice and driving in a pair of runs.

Eastyn Weissert, Judd Shipman and Cash Crossland all finished with two hits apiece.

The Hornets advance to take on Ector in the regional semifinals.
