Katy Trail Phase 2; expansion to add shared use pathway
Denison, Texas -- Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) officials announced that Scout 5 Construction, LLC of Gilmer, Texas, has been awarded a contract for the extension of the City of Denison’s Katy Trail.
The project will improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians, bicyclists, and non-motorists in the surrounding communities. The work consists of adding a shared-use pathway, highly visible crosswalks, ADA compliant ramps at all intersections, two parking areas, and a respite area. The impact to vehicles will be minimal. The trail between SS 503 and Loy Lake Road will be closed for bikers and pedestrians because of the construction work.
The contractor has been granted 90 working days to complete the $2,744,601.85 project. Work is scheduled to begin May 18, 2026, weather permitting. The project is anticipated to be completed in September 2026.
During this period, TxDOT urges drivers to exercise caution. Motorists who travel frequently in this area are asked to pay special attention to all barricades, traffic controls, and signs, and to reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. Motorists should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems. TxDOT also asks drivers to remain alert to road crews while navigating through the construction zone.
