Sherman, Texas -- Austin College is excited to announce its second annual Summer Girl Scout Camp. Held in collaboration with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, this enriching summer camp program will be held at the College from June 21 – June 26 with the theme of “College Knowledge.”

The week-long camp offers Girl Scouts in grades 8 through 12 an immersive glimpse into college life. Participants will attend three academic classes per day, receive student ID cards, stay overnight in the residence halls, and experience a college campus environment firsthand. Along with the college student experience, the program will also include field trips, activities in personal wellness, and career exploration. Courses will be led by nine dedicated Austin College faculty members—nearly 10% of the College’s full-time faculty—demonstrating Austin College’s deep commitment to outreach and education.

“This camp was so transformational for many of the girls who attended last year. As a result, Austin College and the Girl Scouts of North Texas wanted to collaborate to offer another camp based on the college experience,” said Dr. Renee Countryman, Professor of Psychology and the faculty lead for the program. “This camp is especially exciting for girls who want to know more about the college experience. The best way to begin your college search is to have an immersive experience.”

Classes will include media studies, creative writing, mathematics, communication, neuroscience, biology, public health, economics, and classical mythology. Additional faculty-led sessions will introduce girls to the wide the range of higher education opportunities and help them to explore what is the “right college fit.”

The camp is not limited to local participants—Girl Scouts from outside of the Northeast Texas council are welcome to attend. For more information and to register for the camp, please go to the Girl Scouts website. Registration deadline is June 16.
