Bonham, Texas -- For 25 years, Creative Arts Center in Bonham has been a cultural mecca for artists and entertainers. Friday, June 5, 2026 was yet another special occasion as friends gathered for the 25th anniversary of this arts center and to enjoy submissions for the Creative Arts Center's June Art Show.

The gallery rooms were adorned with memorable artwork and dozens of photographs of events held here during the past two decades.

Everyone has a favorite memory in this place. For some, it was a particular art exhibit. For others, it was the vocals of legendary Dallas singer Linda Petty, accompanied and her five-man band, the Main Event.

Creative Arts Center was the scene of a feast in 2014 featuring Louisiana's signature dish, cochon de lait (roasted pig), and -- to complete the setting -- music courtesy of Bois d'Arc Dixieland Jazz Band.

And, speaking of jazz, Creative Arts Center hosted several Charlie Christian Jazz Festivals. Christian, a member of the Benny Goodman Sextet, was born and buried in Bonham. Although he only lived to be 25, the legacy of Christian lived on in the guitarists who honed their skills mimicking the Bonham native, from Barney Kessel and Oscar Moore to Kenny Burrell and Herb Ellis.

For fans of Caribbean and international music, it was hard to top several performances at Creative Arts Center by the globe-trotting ambassadors of reggae, Watusi, led by Bonham native, Jimi "Watusi" Towry.

New memories are being made every week at Creative Arts Center, located at 200 W. 5th Street in Bonham, TX 75418, one block west of the historic Bonham Square.

 Creative Arts Center hours are:
Tuesday-Friday 10 am – 5 pm
Saturday 10 am – 12 pm.
