Fannin County, Texas -- Donnie Fonville Jr., 35, of Leonard, pled guilty to Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 14. Judge Christina Tillett, who presided over the plea hearing on the morning of the 8th of June, 2026, sentenced Fonville to 25 years prison based on the recommendation of District Attorney’s office. Because of the serious nature of the charges, Fonville must serve 25 years - day for day - and is not eligible for parole or any early release.

Back in May of 2025 the first of four victims began to speak out about inappropriate sexual touching by the Defendant, who had been a family friend and coach. Within weeks, additional victims also came forward. Due in part to the fast response of both the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and the Children’s Advocacy Center, law enforcement was able to arrest and take the defendant into custody, where he remained until his plea of guilty.

Due to the number of victims and the defendant’s position of trust, he will not only serve the next two and a half decades behind bars, he will also have to register as a sex offender quarterly for the rest of his life. The Criminal District Attorney’s Office, under Victims Assistance Coordinator April Butner, also ensured that all victims and their families involved will be covered by a life-time protective order that prevents the Defendant from ever contacting them in the future.

“The strength and resilience of the young women in this case who took a stand against this type of inexcusable abuse is beyond remarkable,” First Assistant Criminal District Attorney Nathan Young commented. “The Sheriff’s Office, Detective McCann, and all the wonderful people at the Children’s Advocacy Center also deserve recognition to an unwavering commitment to the youth of our County,” Young added.
