August 20 at 7:00 p.m. - Seth Paridon and Jon Parshall: “Major Unanswered Questions of World War II”

Dr. John McManus is recognized internationally as the senior historian on D-Day, General MacArthur, and the Army in the Pacific War.  He is the author of 14 books on World War II including The Dead and those About to Die about the landing of the Big Red One, the nation’s oldest Army Division that landed on Normandy’s Omaha Beach the morning of June 6, 1944.  The Division lost 1,190 killed, wounded, or missing on that fateful day.

His lecture will be “The D-Day Landings, Planning and Execution” including commentary about Eisenhower and Rommel. McManus is Professor of History at the University of Missouri Rolla, serves on the advisory board of World War II magazine, and WW II Quarterly and co-hosts along with Kevin Hymel the widely acclaimed weekly podcast entitled “WW II Live.”

McManus also has lectured at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans and the Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas

Seth Paridon and Jon Parshall return to the Roundtable after successful individual lectures in Greenville in 2025 for a unique format with both on stage at the same time answering questions from the audience and unanswered questions they have received on their internationally acclaimed podcast, “The Unauthorized History of the Pacific War,” as well as answering all questions from the Roundtable audience.

Paridon, formerly an executive at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, oversaw the oral history program at the Museum which resulted in over 12,000 interviews of World War II veterans.

Parshall is recognized as the world’s leading historian on the naval battle of Midway and the Pacific naval war. His most recent book available in bookstores by July of 2026  is the massive 1200-page book on World War II entitled 1942.
