Royse City, Texas -- James Herman Moss, 78, of Royse City, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026.
James was born on February 15, 1948, in Austin, Texas, to Boyd Edwin Moss and June Warren Moss. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, including service during the Vietnam War. His dedication, courage, and love for his country remained a source of pride throughout his life.
On November 7, 1970, James married the love of his life, Sara Lee Lander. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering love, raising three children and creating a legacy that will continue for generations.
James earned his Master's Degree in Environmental Science from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. He devoted many years of service to the City of Plano, where he worked as a respected Building Inspector until his retirement.
James found great joy in spending time outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and golfer who treasured every opportunity to be on the water or on the golf course. He was well known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and ability to make those around him laugh.
Above all, James cherished time spent with his family.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd Edwin Moss and June Warren Moss, and his sister, Della Griffin.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Sara Moss of Royse City, Texas; his son, Jason Moss and Amber of Quinlan, Texas, and children Ashlynn and Brooklyn Moss, son, Jonathan Moss and Lheia of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas and children Walker, Wade, and Brantley Moss; his daughter, Emily Krug and Jason of Royse City, Texas and children Landry Jo, Kash, Gentry
James; his sisters, Janet Kilgore of Honey Grove, Texas, and Sarah Moran of Windom, Texas; his brother, Jonny Moss and wife Pam of Bogata, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A memorial service honoring James's life will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Riding High Cowboy Church, 8771 FM 35, Royse City, Texas 75189, with Pastor Steve Bishop officiating.
James will be remembered for his faithful service to his country, his dedication to his family and career, his love of the outdoors, and the laughter he brought to so many lives. His legacy of strength, kindness, and humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
