Fannin County, Texas -- All five members of Fannin County Commissioners Court were present for a special meeting held Tuesday, June 30, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The meeting opened with a discussion on the process to handle a protest if an elected official chooses to file a protest because they didn't get a raise. No protests have been filed.

With a challenging fiscal year on the horizon, Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham went over a list of county departments that have not asked for more money in the coming year: Veterans Service Officer, Emergency Management Coordinator, Auditor, Purchasing Agent, and Indigent Healthcare.

Commissioners court will have to make some tough calls next Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. when this court meets for more in-depth budget discussions with the departments that are asking for budget increases.

Cunningham has stated that if commissioners court funds everything county departments have asked for, it would put the county approximately $3.8 million in the red during the next fiscal year.

Commissioners court adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
