150,000 meals served,
continuing to fight food insecurity in Collin County
Collin County, Texas -- Community Garden Kitchen, the only evening meal program in Collin County dedicated to serving residents facing food insecurity, proudly announced today that it has served 150,000 free meals since opening its doors in June 2022.
Through its flagship program, Angela’s Table, the organization provides healthy, delicious, restaurant-style meals in a welcoming environment where dignity and respect come first. Guests are not required to fill out paperwork or show identification to be served a meal. The kitchen serves dinner Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
“Every person deserves to dine with dignity, not just receive food,” said Community Garden Kitchen president, Angela Poen. “Angela’s Table offers a safe, inviting restaurant setting where neighbors can enjoy a nourishing meal without judgment or barriers.”

In addition to evening dinners, dedicated teams of volunteers arrive each morning to prepare sack lunches that are delivered directly to day laborers and unhoused individuals throughout the county. Since opening, the organization has also donated more than 132 tons of food to three local food pantries, helping ensure their shelves remain stocked for those in need.
In 2025, Community Garden Kitchen expanded its impact by launching the Culinary Course for Youth Aging Out of Foster Care, an eight-week paid internship program for young adults ages 18–22. Participants receive hands-on training in the hospitality industry, gaining valuable skills and experience that prepare them for meaningful employment upon graduation.
Complementing the kitchen’s efforts is a thriving ¼-acre volunteer-managed garden located adjacent to the dining facility. Last year alone, the garden yielded more than 1,700 pounds of fresh produce, herbs, and fruit used in daily meal preparation.
“Food insecurity continues to rise across Collin County, affecting individuals and families who never imagined they would need help,” said Ms. Poen. “Our goal is not only to provide a good hot meal, but to restore dignity and build community—one plate at a time.”
