Wolfe City, Texas -- The Ector Lady Eagles showed toughness and determination Friday night, battling through a two-hour, five-set thriller to defeat Wolfe City, 3-2.
Ector came out strong and took the opening set, 25-18. Wolfe City answered in the second with a 25-21 win to even the match. The Lady Eagles then edged Wolfe City in an intense third set, 28-26, before Wolfe City forced a deciding fifth set with a 25-23 win in the fourth.
After nearly two hours of back-and-forth volleyball, Ector stayed composed with the match on the line and finished the night with a 15-13 victory in the fifth set to secure the win.
Alana Mackey led the Lady Eagles with 18 kills while adding three aces, nine assists and 17 digs. Adalynn Derrick helped direct the offense with 20 assists to go along with four aces, seven kills and 17 digs.
Ella Laymance recorded three aces, five kills and eight digs, while Audrey Arie anchored the defense with a team-high 27 digs and also contributed four aces and one kill.
Aleea Wheeler added five aces, seven kills and six digs, and Ainsley Greathouse finished with one ace and five digs.
The two-hour battle was a true team effort for the Lady Eagles, who continued fighting through every momentum swing before coming away with the exciting victory.
