Denison, Texas -- One of Frontier Village & Museum’s most popular hands-on programs returns this fall, giving participants the chance to experience the traditional craft of blacksmithing in a historic setting.

Beginner Blacksmithing, led by Steven Mildward of Black Dog’s Foundry, offers an introduction to the skills and techniques used by blacksmiths in the 1800s. During the two-hour class, students will learn about forge mechanics, basic blacksmithing techniques, and essential safety practices before putting that knowledge to work at the forge.

The class is designed for beginners, so no previous blacksmithing experience is necessary. Participants will have the opportunity to work with hot metal while learning directly from an experienced blacksmith, making the program a great choice for anyone interested in traditional trades, history, craftsmanship, or simply trying something new.

Because each student needs plenty of instruction and hands-on time, class sizes are intentionally kept small. Beginner Blacksmithing is consistently one of Frontier Village’s most requested programs, and previous sessions have filled quickly. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register early.

Three class dates are available for Fall 2026:

• Dates: Saturday, September 19; Saturday, October 17; or Saturday, November 21
• Time: 2:00–4:00 p.m.
• Cost: $50 per person
• Ages: 13 and older
• For participants under 18: A parent or guardian must be present
