Bonham, Texas -- It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gary “Dutch” Daniel, who was born on October 13, 1959, in Bonham, Texas, and departed this life on September 2, 2026, surrounded by his family in Atoka, Oklahoma. Dutch was the cherished son of Olath Wayne Daniel and Doris Darlene Green Daniel.

A true cowboy at heart, Dutch could eat, sleep, and breathe rodeo. His passion for the sport began in his teenage years as a calf roper, and he later found his true love in steer wrestling. He spent more than 25 years competing in the sport he loved, winning his share of the rodeo along the way. Dutch proudly held membership in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) for many years and was honored to receive his Gold Card, a testament to his enduring legacy in the rodeo community.

Dutch lived life to the fullest and was full of life. He was one of a kind, with a personality that kept you on your toes, you never knew what he was going to say or do. His love for rodeo, his sense of humor, and his unforgettable spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.

Dutch was preceded in death by his parents, Olath Wayne Daniel and Doris Darlene Daniel; and his brother, Wesley Daniel.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha Stallings Daniel; beloved son, Dylan Daniel of Atoka; stepchildren, Stormie Dennis and Shane Dennis, both of Honey Grove; sister, Kathy Davis of Tyler; brother, Steve Daniel of New Braunfels; brother-in-law, Mark Stallings of Windom; and many cherished friends who will continue to carry his legacy in their hearts.

Visitation will be held at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Dutch’s life and remembering the legacy he leaves behind will take place on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home. Following the service, Dutch will be laid to rest at Elwood Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Duhon, Dennis Brownfield, Linn Churchill, Justin Smith, Jason Murray, and Chris Harry Paskett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Duvall and Tom Duvall, David Outlaw, Mark Stallings, Jack Murray, and Glenn Clark.
