"When students have access to books, technology and educational resources, they gain tools that can support their learning for years to come," said Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Texas recipients are below, and a comprehensive list of grant recipients may be found online at www.dgliteracy.org. The Texas grants are expected to positively impact the lives of more than 30,000 individuals in the state.
Applications for the 2027 Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant cycle supporting youth, family, summer and adult literacy programs will be available at www.dgliteracy.org in January 2027. These grants aim to support schools, libraries, and non-profit organizations within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center in implementing new literacy initiatives or expanding existing ones. Grant applications may be found online at http://www.dgliteracy.org.
Additionally, the Foundation recently concluded its seventh annual The Yellow Glasses Project to shine an additional light on literacy. This year’s Project featured a partnership with iHeartRadio radio personality and CMA and ACM winner, Bobby Bones, the host of the No. 1 nationally-syndicated Country radio program The Bobby Bones Show. Since 2020, the campaign has raised more than $9 million to directly benefit the Foundation and the programs it supports.
