Annie (Midge) Hawthorne Peacock
November 8, 1941 – September 15, 2026
Sherman, Texas -- Annie was born in Roxton, Texas, the eighth of nine children, to James and Gladys Hawthorne. She moved to Sherman, Texas and began working at Burlington where she met Don Peacock. Annie and Don were married in Southmayd, Texas on March 24, 1961, and were blessed with two children, Doyle and Donna. After leaving Burlington, Annie worked at various jobs around Sherman.
Annie loved being outdoors and enjoyed sports. She coached her daughter’s softball team for several seasons and spent many afternoons catching pitches from Doyle. During baseball season it was not uncommon for Annie to take her kids to see the Texas Rangers play.
She enjoyed roller coasters and spent many summer days at Six Flags Over Texas. Annie also enjoyed traveling; for several years she would pack for a week-long trip with two of her sisters Allie (Sissie) and Velma (Baby) and head to Branson, Missouri. The three of them would enjoy the sights and sounds of Branson but their most fun was seeing the Elvis impersonator.
Annie’s favorite vacation spot was Colorado. For many years Annie and Don would pack up the grandkids and spend several days hiking, horseback riding, and rafting. Annie was a devote Christian and served her Lord in various ways at West Sherman Baptist church where she was a Sunday School teacher, vacation Bible school teacher, and often sang solos during services. In the last few years, she attended Bethel Baptist Church in Howe in order to go to church with Doyle.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents James Oliver Hawthorne and Gladys Melvina Williams Hawthorne; sisters Thelma Davis, Betty Griffin, and Allie Hargrove and brothers William Hawthorne, George Hawthorne, James Hawthorne, and Steve Hawthorne.
Annie is survived by her sister Velma Frampton of Howe, Texas; her son Doyle Peacock, wife Lory and grandson Lukas of Anna, Texas; daughter Donna Peacock and Sandra Secrest of Aurora, Colorado; granddaughter Teresa Bowles and husband Daniel of Grand Saline, Texas; grandson Adam Cicalese and wife Jossie of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania; granddaughter Shannon Peacock of Sherman, Texas. Annie is also survived by ten great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 28, at Waldo Funeral Home.
A funeral service honoring Annie’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 29, at West Sherman Baptist Church. Rev. Weldon Hudson of Bethel Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Holloway Cemetery.
