Bonham, Texas -- Edith "Marie" Curry, 89, of Sulphur Springs, formerly of Bonham, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026. She was born on May 27, 1937, in Clarksville, Texas, the daughter of Charlie Willingham and Bonnie Metts Willingham. Marie was a shining example of love, kindness, and generosity throughout her life.
On July 20, 1956, Marie married her beloved husband, Curtis Phillip Curry, in Lovington, New Mexico. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage built on a deep love and mutual respect for one another. Their marriage was a beautiful example for their family, and their children fondly remember never hearing a cross word exchanged between them. Marie and Curtis were devoted Christians whose faith in God was at the center of their lives. They were members of Trinity Baptist Church in Bonham.
Marie was a devoted mother who believed that caring for her children was the most important job a mother could have. Her family was always at the heart of her life, and she took great pride in caring for her children and creating a loving home for them. The love, guidance, and devotion she gave her family remained among her greatest accomplishments.
Marie worked as a data entry supervisor for Blue Cross Blue Shield, retiring after more than 20 years of dedicated service. Following retirement, she and Curtis embraced a new adventure, traveling throughout the United States and Canada in their motor home with their beloved dog, Sophie, by their side. After their traveling days came to an end, Marie and Curtis continued enjoying the outdoors while serving as Park Hosts for the Corps of Engineers around Lake Texoma. During those years, they created many cherished memories and formed lasting friendships.
Marie found joy in the simple things in life. She enjoyed playing bingo, tending to her plants, and indulging in one of her favorite treats, Hershey’s Kisses. Above all, Marie had a generous and selfless heart. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and was known for extending kindness to others, even those she had never met.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Bonnie Willingham; her beloved husband, Curtis Curry; son, Richard Charles Curry; brother, James Ray Willingham; sisters, Virginia Banke, Elizabeth Clark, Dorothy Jo, and Martha Ann Willingham; and nephew, Johnny Ray Willingham.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Phillip Curry and wife Catherine, and Gerald “Jerry” Curry and wife Gay; daughter, Michelle Lynn Curry Schimmer; grandchildren, Heather Vascassenno and husband Vito, Shelby Curry, LeAnn Curry, Lori Curry, Lara Curry, Eric Curry, Phillip Curry, and Hannah Schimmer; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ann Willingham; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham, with Pastor Rodney Stanford officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery.
