Bonham, Texas -- There was a buzz of anticipation and excitement in the air as a crowd gathered on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 921 North Center Street in Bonham, to celebrate two ribbon cuttings, Risser House and Agape Financial Business Solutions, and an open house for Harvest Market at The Courtyard.
Almost 70 years ago the nation's attention was on Joe Risser's 18-bed hospital during Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn's final days. The building was actually constructed around 1915 to be the residence on D.W. Sweeney, a local merchant and banker before Risser converted it to a hospital in 1956.
On Saturday, eager guests were invited to tour this immaculately preserved, two-story brick structure that has already earned a unique place in local history and is now experiencing a fascinating rebirth as Risser House Bed Breakfast and Events.
Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce hosted both ribbon cuttings. Mimi’s Mums & More added a splash of color with mums & mixed pots for sale and guests enjoyed conversation in The Courtyard, a spacious backyard setting between Risser House and Agape Financial Business Solutions.
