Calico Rock, Arkansas -- A Colorado angler came over to Arkansas to land a nice 4.3-pound, 21-inch rainbow trout on the White River near Calico Rock this week. He was fishing with a Jenkins Fishing Resort guide named Cobb, and they were using sculpins to land the rainbow.

According to Dave McCulley at Jenkins Resort, the water as of Wednesday had settled into a 3- to 5-foot level, and quarter-ounce Thompson Colorado Spoons, Rapala Countdowns, Panther Martin lures and jigs were working well with the trout.
Fish might take a minute or two to adjust to this suddenly wonderful weather we're experiencing at midweek, but this weekend could be a special one for anglers all over Arkansas. It's been a long, hot summer, and some fish are still hanging around those big lake thermoclines; some fish like stripers have tailed off considerably in the bigger lakes of late, and walleye have slowed down some. But they'll start noticing a shift in their conditions, and that should make the fishing trips more enjoyable in the coming days.
