Bonham, Texas -- Willie Clyde Blackwell, lovingly known as “Papa” to his family, passed away on September 29, 2026, at the age of 98. He leaves behind nearly a century of stories, laughter, hard work, and memories that will continue to be shared for generations.

Born on September 2, 1928, Clyde lived a long and remarkable life. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He was a farmer, businessman, master electrician, cowboy, and bronc rider—a true jack-of-all-trades who understood the value of a hard day’s work.

Clyde was a cowboy at heart and had a lifelong love for horses. He also loved his tractors and lawn mowers, and there wasn’t much he couldn’t build, fix, operate, or figure out.

He was also a storyteller through and through. After 98 years, Clyde had a story for just about everything—and he was always ready to tell one. Most of those stories were true. The others may have simply gotten a little better with every telling. His sense of humor and jokester personality could bring laughter to a room, and those stories will be repeated by his family for many years to come.

Above all else, loved his family and was deeply loved in return. He was the kind of man whose life touched far more people than could ever be counted, and he was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Clyde’s legacy lives on through his daughters, Mary Ann Keily, Donna Kay Kuykendall, and Janet Weeks; his four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandsons.

Five generations stand as a testament to a life well lived and a family well loved.

Ninety-eight years is an extraordinary lifetime, yet somehow it still never feels like enough when someone means so much.

The cowboy may have taken his final ride, but his stories aren’t finished being told.

Willie Clyde Blackwell will be deeply missed, forever loved, and remembered for generations to come.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home.
