Saturday, May 18

Greenville, Texas -- To honor and remember our nation’s military heroes, Audie Murphy Day will be Saturday, May 18.  This annual event is hosted by the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum to celebrate Audie Leon Murphy, the most decorated combat soldier of World War II, as well as military veterans and those currently serving our country.

Audie Murphy Day, May 18, centers on the life of Audie Murphy, a native son of Hunt County, war hero, Hollywood film star and accomplished songwriter.

Some of our featured speakers will include Martha Bolton, author of Bob Hope’s Wartime Correspondence with the G.I.s of WWII, Melody Miyamoto Walters, author of In Love & War: The WWII Courtship Letters of a Nisei Couple and Kevin Brodie, an actor, producer, writer and director who starred with Audie Murphy in Showdown and Battle at Bloody Beach.

The museum will also be presented with a very special donation during the morning program. In addition, the bestselling movie Battle at Bloody Beach starring Audie Murphy will be shown at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Texan Theater on Friday, May 17.

Saturday morning’s events will be held at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center at 5501 Business Hwy 69 South in Greenville and the afternoon and evening events will move to the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum located at 600 Interstate Highway 30 in Greenville. All activities at the civic center will be free but a regular admission charge of $8 adults, $6 seniors/veterans and $3 students will apply to enter the Museum.

These are just some of the activities taking place. Contact the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum at (903) 450-4502 or visit the website at www.amacmuseum.com for additional information.
