Choctaw Cultural Center to celebrate third anniversary July 27

Art, education, tribal pride on display, family fun all day

Durant, Oklahoma -- The Choctaw Cultural Center will mark its third year of sharing Choctaw history and culture, unique art exhibits, concerts by Native entertainers, school tours, and more on Saturday, July 27. The public is invited for a day of activities for all ages from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Anniversary activities will include an Art Market with Choctaw artists and crafts people invited to show and sell original works; and tours of exhibits will be conducted, including the new “Okhvta Chito Okhoatali: Choctaw and French Transatlantic Legacies” which features a collection of artifacts from the 1700s.

Chocolate-making classes with a professional chocolatier will be presented, a Stickball Demonstration will be held, along with Competitions in the Living Village (Rabbit Stick Throw, Cornhole, and Bow Shoot). Also, a new menu will be launched at the Champuli Café, and in honor of the center’s grand opening date of the 23rd, the Hvshi Gift Store will offer 23 percent off select merchandise.

Previous celebrations have brought large turnouts to the Choctaw Cultural Center.
