Funding in part from North Texas Community Foundation

Lewisville, Texas -- As National Water Quality Month begins, Upper Trinity Regional Water District is excited to announce that it recently purchased a stream erosion trailer for educational demonstrations. The trailer will be used in education and outreach efforts to demonstrate how proper watershed management, such as not building too close to streams, leads to better water quality in our local water supply reservoirs. The trailer also shows how changes in stream hydrology can lead to more stream erosion and how natural vegetation can help reduce erosion.

The Anita Berry Martin Memorial Fund at North Texas Community Foundation provided a portion of the funds for the trailer.

“We’re grateful for the generous donation from the North Texas Community Foundation to help with the purchase of the stream erosion trailer,” said Larry N. Patterson, Upper Trinity’s Executive Director. “Having our own stream trailer will enhance Upper Trinity’s outreach program to schools, homeschool groups, and others about the importance of protecting our watersheds.”

Upper Trinity will use the new stream trailer as a hands-on demonstration station as part of a tour of the Taylor Water Treatment Plant and Nancy Tam Water Wise Demonstration Garden in Lewisville. Upper Trinity staff can also bring the stream erosion trailer and other demonstrations to schools, civic groups, or other locations in its service area. Teachers and other group leaders who are interested in a tour and/or stream trailer demonstration may contact Blake Alldredge at balldredge@utrwd.com.

Upper Trinity has additional educational resources available for free, including TEKS-aligned lesson plans, and a Story Map with videos and links to lesson plans and resources from other organizations.

These resources can be found on Upper Trinity’s website at https://utrwd.com/resources/teacher-resources/.
