Bonham, Texas -- Dolton Owens, 86, of Bonham, Texas, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on August 13, 2024 at his home. He was born December 7, 1937, in Edhube, Texas, to Odis and Opal Owens, Dolton lived a life marked by dedication, faith, and service.

A 1957 graduate of Ector High School, Dolton married Retha Call Owens in 1959. He retired from General Cable in Bonham, Texas, after 35 years of service. Never one to stay idle, Dolton continued his career at Drawbaugh Corp., Genca Tool and Die, and drove for Bonham Chrysler until this year.

Dolton was an active community member, participating in Rotary and United Way. As a 32nd degree Mason he was a 50+ year member of the Constantine Lodge, #13 Bonham and the Dallas Scottish Rite where he helped many children receive care. His dedication to his faith was evident through his many decades of service as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Bonham, where he and Retha were devoted members for over 45 years and contributed to countless ministries.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Retha; his sister, Helen Harrell of Ector; daughters Renee Hancock (Jimmy) and Denise Sanderson (Clark); and grandchildren Mitzi Morse (Nicky), Andy Sanderson (Jodie), Erica Phillips (Casey), Owen Sanderson (Ashden), Emily Edwards (Austen), Taylor Hancock (Samantha), John Sanderson, Logan Sanderson, and Noah Sanderson. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Dusty and Lain Hilliard, Karsyn Phillips, Cayden and Jameson Hancock, Maggie and Audrey Sanderson, Janie Sanderson, the expected arrival of Blakely Sanderson, Penelope Sanderson, and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Odis and Opal Owens, and sister, June Taylor.

Dolton was a man of deep faith and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and work. His passion for life and commitment to those around him were evident in all he did. He touched many lives with his kindness and prayers, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and the community he served so faithfully.

A memorial service to honor Dolton’s life will be held at First Baptist Bonham, 710 N. Center St., Bonham, TX on Tuesday, August 20 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation at 1:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Bonham.
