No. 16 Dodd City Lady Hornets sweep Ector

Ector, Texas -- The Dodd City Lady Hornets took over sole possession of first place in District 21-1A with an intense, three-set win over Ector despite the Lady Eagles' valiant effort to defend their home turf.

Ector led for most of the first set before a tip-kill by Addison Weeks gave Dodd City a 20-19 lead. The Lady Hornets went on to take the opener, 25-22.

In the second set, the teams traded points until the score was tied, 11-11. Dodd City went on a 4-0 run to build a 15-11 advantage en route to a 25-18 victory.

Dodd City and Ector saved the best for last as the Lady Hornets and the Lady Eagles battled to a 25-25 tie in the third set before Dodd City knocked down the final two points of the night for a 27-25 win to seal the deal.

Dodd City junior Addison Weeks led all hitters with 25 kills, Gracyn Shindler slammed down eight kills, Kayleigh McBrayer finished with four kills, Caroline Lackey put down a pair of kills, with Kenzi Freeman and Adisen White collecting one kill apiece.

Shindler handed out 24 assists and Weeks had 10 assists.

Freeman came up with 24 digs, Shindler had 17 digs, Weeks got under 13 digs, Ralyn Daniel and McBrayer both had four digs, White had three digs and Lindsey was credited with two digs.

Weeks led the team in blocks (2) and aces (4).

With the win on the road, the Lady Hornets improve to 21-11 on the season and 2-0 in district.

The loss drops Ector to 1-1 in district play.

Dodd City, ranked No. 16 in Class 1A, will host Class 3A Valley View on Tuesday, October 22.
