Bonham, Texas - All are invited to a special worship service at First Presbyterian Church of Bonham on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 10:00 am.  The annual Kirkin' o' the Tartans is a special celebration of Scottish heritage and a cherished tradition at the local Presbyterian Church.

Kirk is Scottish for “church” and a tartan is the iconically plaid patterned wool cloth traditionally sported by a proud Scot. These garments represented specific kinship and clanship pride.  Over time the plaid tartans became synonymous with Scottish national identity. The Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan event reminds folks that although everyone may come from many diverse backgrounds, we are all one in Christ. Those with Scottish heritage may bring your Tartan and accessories or wear a Kilt to the celebration.  Everyone, regardless of heritage, is also encouraged to wear plaid to this service.

John Williams, chaplain of Austin College, will be the guest preacher for the workship service.  The Shields of Honor Pipes and Drums band from Sherman will also be playing their bagpipes and drums.

There will also be a potluck lunch that will follow the service and all are invited to attend the luncheon too, regardless of whether one can bring a dish to share or not.

First Presbyterian Church has been in Bonham for more than 150 years.  The church is located at 818 N Main in Bonham.
