Finalists and Winners for the 2024 President’s Awards Program have been announced. For over 37 years the awards program, sponsored by Texas Downtown (TXD), has recognized outstanding projects, places, and people of Texas Downtowns.

Denison’s Stafford House Provisions Inside the Katy Depot won the Best Commercial Interior award for populations under 50,000. The award recognizes excellence in merchandising, customer orientation, and/or business functionality in an office or retail setting.

Stafford House Provisions delivers a luxurious and memorable experience, where every detail is designed with the customer in mind. Set inside the historic Katy Depot in downtown Denison, Texas, the space combines moody greens, dark woods, and floor-to-ceiling drapes with dim lighting and the scent of tobacco flowers for an inviting ambiance.

Antique wine press tasting tables, leather sectionals, and custom wine racks create a familiar yet upscale atmosphere. Guests can enjoy fine dining and their favorite wines while relaxing to a mix of jazz and contemporary music. With its blend of modern elegance and historic charm, Stafford House Provisions offers the perfect setting for any occasion.

TXD was established in 1985 to connect and serve communities that are committed to downtown vitality. The organization is an independent, statewide nonprofit that represents cities and towns of all sizes, economic
development corporations, chambers of commerce, local associations, small businesses, and individuals.

Denison’s Main Street Director Donna Dow feels Stafford House is the perfect fit for the beautiful Katy Depot.

“Stafford House does a great job of combining atmosphere and experience. Their food matches the atmosphere, and we are very pleased to have this outstanding family-run business in our downtown.”

Ninety-eight entries were submitted in eleven different categories from communities across the state. Design and achievement categories were judged by separate panels.

The judges for design entries were:

• Brisa Byford, Civic Brand
• Maggie Gillespie, Main Street America
• Dana Hogan Mass, Texas Lifestyle Magazine
• Steven Lyons, Authentic Texas
• Paul Manno, Gensler
• Troy Myatt, Wrangler Design, Texas Forts Trail Region
• Krista Nightengale, Better Block

Winners were announced on Tuesday, October 29 at the President’s Awards Gala, held in conjunction with the 2024 Texas Downtown Annual Conference October 28-30 in Abilene, TX.
