Bells, Texas -- Dennis Van Britt, 69, passed away on November 17, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Van Britt entered this world on August 23, 1955 in Denison, Texas the son of Dennis and Martha (Fleming) Britt. He graduated from Bells High School in 1973 and immediately went to work for the MKT Railroad. Van worked for the Katy Railroad for 15 years then transitioned into private investigating where he met many lifelong friends, even across the courtroom aisle, like Roger Sanders, Don Gordon, and Terry Thomas.
Deeply passionate about the community he lived in, Van dedicated almost ten years of service to Bells ISD. His courage and motivation to lead the school board as president played an integral part in constructing the new high school. The vision the school board possessed to manage the future growth of the district would impact generations to come, including some of his own grandchildren that are now fourth generation Panthers.
Van was also part of critical decisions made about curriculum and personnel that helped Bells ISD begin its climb to currently being one of the top districts in North Texas.
He took great pride in his children and out of his many accomplishments his grandchildren topped the list, lovingly referring to him as ‘Papa’. Whether they were chatting about sourdough, watching the Longhorns, or engaging in witty banter, conversations were never dull.
Anyone that met Van quickly recognized his one of a kind personality. He could entertain any room with colorful conversations and amusing anecdotes. It was often said he could sell ice to an Eskimo and never met a stranger in his life. He will be greatly missed by so many.
Van leaves behind his beloved family, daughters, Kasey Britt of Bells; Kiley (Britt) Miller and husband, Tommy of Bells; sons, Jacob Britt and wife, Kim of Denton; Josh Garrison and wife, Samantha of Savoy; Benjamin Britt and wife, Susan of Dallas; grandchildren, Logan Garrison, Braeden Richardson, Elizabeth Britt, Scarlett Miller, Natalie Britt, Barrett Miller, Blake Miller, and Sterling Miller; father, Dennis Britt of Bells; sisters, Clara (David) Sears; Leslie (Kenny) Neasbitt. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha (Fleming) Britt.
Celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2024 at Parkside Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Humphrey officiating. Family and friends will gather to visit one hour prior to service time.
Special thank you to Donna, Bethany, Joe, and Ashley of Nanaw’s Place.
