Honey Grove, Texas -- Bessie Mae Nelson, 88, of Honey Grove went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at TMC Bonham Hospital. She was born in Dodd City, TX on August 3, 1936 to Lee and Ola Johnson. She was the baby girl of eleven beautiful children. In 1954 she married the love of her life, Mack Jr. Nelson, and together they gave life to two amazing boys, Kenneth and Choice. Bessie Mae was a faithful member of Sixteenth Street Baptist Church for over sixty years.
Bessie is preceded in death by both parents, her beloved husband Mack Jr. Nelson, her brothers: J.C. Johnson, Lee Johnson, Billy Johnson, Woodrow Johnson and Choice Johnson, her sisters: Pearl Johnson, Jewel Porter, Zelema Allen, Doris Johnson and Ruby Titus. Their spirits now welcome her with open arms into eternal peace.
Bessie is survived by her two sons Kenneth Nelson Sr. (Lois), of Honey Grove, TX and Choice Nelson Sr. (Elaine) of Arlington, TX., two brother in laws Michael McGee (Annetta) and Kevin McGee (Alister) and a sister in law Lawretta McGee (Derrick).
In addition she leaves behind seven grandchildren: Kelisha Champion (Orlando) of Dallas, TX, Kenneth Nelson Jr. (Tasha) of Celina, TX, Delois Sampson (Courtney) of Honey Grove, TX, Andrew Nelson (Camille) of Houston, Tx, Mariah Oliver (Deja) of McKinney, TX, Choice Nelson II. (Jaycee) of Commerce, TX, Tabius Anderson Sr. and Candace Cephas (Donald) of Crowley, TX.
Additionally she leaves behind twenty-two great grandchildren: Kayla Champion, JD Sampson, Mia Sampson, Landon Nelson, Kamden Nelson, Kenna Nelson, Sariah Nelson, Jasean Nelson, Arianna Nelson, Kason Champion, Jordyn Champion, Kingston Nelson, Baby J Sampson, Cassius Nelson, Cashton Nelson, Donald Cephas Jr., Javon, Jaylen, Jacobi, Madison, Tabius Anderson Jr., Serenity Anderson and Leila Anderson.
A host of devoted and loving extended family and friends whom where touched by her warmth and generosity. Her love and guidance will continue to live through her family, who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024 at St. James Baptist Church in Honey Grove with Rev. Darrell Franklin Sr. officiating and Rev. Chris Roberts as eulogist. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Honey Grove.
Pallbearers are Gaylon Johnson, Bryan Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Pat Johnson, Corey Johnson and Glenn Frazier.
Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Nelson Jr., Choice Nelson II, Andrew Nelson, Tobias Anderson and Orlando Champion.
