Honey Grove, Texas -- Horace Edward Morris Jr., born September 5, 1933, in Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024. He was the son of Horace Edward Morris Sr. and Jesse Morris.
Ed's life was defined by his intelligence, wit, and dedication to his family. He possessed remarkable talents across many fields and was always eager to lend his knowledge and skills. Among his many accomplishments, he humbly acknowledged contributing to the work of NASA, though he found his greatest joy in his later career as a rural mail carrier—a job he retired from with pride.
A sharp mind and a love of learning stayed with Ed throughout his life. He enjoyed engaging with challenging trivia and cherished evenings watching Jeopardy! His sense of humor, quick wit, and humble demeanor endeared him to all who knew him.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Morris; his children Jeannie Cunningham (and husband Terry Cunningham), Pam Carter (and husband Quinn Carter), Chris Morris (and wife Jeanne Morris), Jonny Morris, and Brian Morris (and wife Debi Morris); as well as numerous grandchildren who brought him immense joy.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Gladys Morris, son Steve Morris, and his daughter, Deanna Morris.
A memorial service celebrating Ed's life will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 10:00 a.m., at Dial Baptist Church.
Cremation arrangements are under the care of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove, Texas.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, wisdom, and humor will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
